50 Ford Truck - Swing Down Battery Box

To keep the engine bay free of as many components as possible we installed the battery box behind the passenger side rear tire. As seen the strength by design brackets were fabricated to hold up to the heavy battery weight during driving. In addition they are bolted to the frame for easy removing. Check out the long pivot shaft which will allow the box to tilt for access in servicing or removal of the battery.

The box itself is large enough to hold an Optima Gel battery and allow clearance for special sound system battery terminals. The slip off lid is removed by a single quick remove fastener located on the bottom front panel.

Once installed you can see how the box pivots down to allow easy access and removal of the battery. Notice the heavy duty brackets against the frame side plate. We build parts to stand the test of time.

We have pushed/pivoted it up to show how much clearance there is. At a later date we will be fabricating rear fender liners which will protect the box from any road debris or rocks the tire may pick up..

A different view shows the clearance between the leaf spring and its bolt/bushing. The leaf spring can still be removed without taking the box out if servicing ever needs done.

This shows the Optima installed with terminals clearing a 1/2 inch as planned. In addition we installed a quick change receptacle "Red Plastic" to attach the special jumper cables we fabricated.

The quick removing slip off battery cover has 1/4 rubber adhered to the top for added protection in the remote possibility the battery would ever loosen up from the inside box hold down system we fabricated.
