1973 Corvette - Crack Repair
The rear clip was replaced at one time due to collision damage. These seams always have sink marks when G.M. got done with them so we are reinforcing the seams to eliminate the usual flex to keep the panels from sinking and looking ripply on this Corvette restoration project.
We are a straight body company, meaning our goal is to have no ripples. The factory could of cared less about this level of quality.
There were hundreds of cracks on the body to repair but we thought we would show a few strange places to give you an understanding of just how fragile these bodies are. To the left of this taillight you can see how deep pits once cleaned out become holes.
The underside of the rear deck shows pieces cracked and missing around the gas filler lid cover opening.
These cracks above the rear bumper are from overtightening of the bumper brackets that do not make even contact as much as is needed.
The bumper holes are all cracked from the bolts making contact with them over a period of time this begins to chafe and work on the glass of the Corvette.
All around the nose piece the flanges are cracked with missing pieces. This part is sandwiched or backed by metal.
The top side of the nose piece below the head light shows missing chunks around the bolt openings.
Ground down to a minimal thickness and built back up using todays state of the art material will produce a permanent repair.
The door jambs also require much attention.
The bottom of the roof fin had cracks where you would think could not happen.
Repairing each and everyone takes much time for longevity to take place but when you are the original owner you must have it right.
During the Corvette's fiberglass repair and body work we also fit all the door glass in the car as it has tension against the T-Top rubber and affects the door fit.
Jeff applies the hi build primer designed to adhere to fiberglass and allow enough materials to block properly.
All of the Corvette's panels are fitted to our 3/16ths standard.
Even gaps front to back on the doors are also a must for each Corvette Restoration project.
