1972 Firebird - Hood Repairs
Grease and grime is the word on this Bird in need of much attention. Pontiac stamped them all out with ram air acceptance holes. We de-greased then plastic media blasted it down to the original gel coat.
The original injection molded hood was rough but still our best choice over hand laid repro. Here we removed the front striker catch plate to cad- plate and restore
As seen there were many cracks from rocks and improper lifting of the hood scoops.
A complete section was broken and missing on the air vents that needed replaced. We cannibalized another hood that was much rougher for the exact size vents.
As seen many cracks and chip repairs on the corners and vents.
We also removed the metal hood bracing that was rusted and pitted. We fabbed new ones and reinstalled them with larger head rivets.
After much repair she is about ready for primer.
