1966 Mustang - Rust Repair
There was so much rust on this car that we can not possibly show you all it, but we have listed enough for you to get "the picture" for sure. Bottom of the door corners are typical places on a Mustang and this RustStang was no exception.
From another door we cut out the inner section to fit and then blasted the front and back side for primer adhesion.
The inside of the door also got the rust free treatment with zinc chromate applied. We are ready for the new section.
Once welded and blasted no repair detection is seen.
The door outer panel corners are a common area. In fact because of the inner structure that Ford installed all there models of the 60"s held dirt and water in the corner and Voila, that mixture promotes rust.
Same procedures.
Done right is what we do.
Inner structure shows original hole oversized from rusting.
Once repaired the orig hole put back in.
Bottom of the qter edge is thin.
Corner repairs are finished and ready for primer.
Front inner apron side panels were rusty and damaged.
Prep the edge for a new section.
This is what we were talking about. The apron is too short. Repro from a far away country of which is the only one on the market currently. We have to add a section.
A small strip to the bottom and no detection will be seen.
Front rocker cap rusted out.
Prepped a new section as both sides were gone.
Primed front and back side.
Installed per the factory, only this one is protected for a life time of longevity unlike the MFG did by only thinking 4 to 6 years then a customer will buy the newest model. Little did they know or care for that matter that crazy people like you and I would want the cars 40 years later.
