1966 442 - Rear End
Original 12 bolt gears were very worn and greasy inside.
The control arm bushings are ready to be removed and replaced, as seen the original yellow inspection mark is still intact.
The complete unit was dipped in our heated cleaning tanks. We then blasted it white metal clean and are ready for priming, painting, assembly and detailing.
We applied bare steel paint on the outside tubes for beauty and longevity. These parts originally came bare metal from the factory, unfortunately you would have to keep it oiled and greased of which is a magnet for dust and dirt. The maintenance would be very time consuming from having to constantly clean and re oil to keep the rust from attacking the steel. Unless you are trying to win a national concours judge over to your favor it is best to paint it as we have done.
The center section was done in cast iron paint.
New bushings are in and she is coming together.
Before photo of the brakes shows a nasty look but the after photo is pretty.
After resto we are talking cleannnn man.
Original ribbed drum brakes on the rear are heavy duty.
Finished unit looks great and will last for many years.
Front view looks great.
