1966 442 - Gauges
The main gauge panel needed much work. There were cracks and missing sections in the original unit. We found another one that we could use some of the sections from and make one unit. We searched every where for a new one " like pulling Dinosaur teeth". There are none.
The wiper hole was too large on the panel that we chose to restore so we fabricated a washer with a square edge on it to retain the switch.
As seen we epoxied it from the back side.
In order to install a rallye pack gauge in this panel we needed clearance like a factory ralley panel would of come with. There were/are no original ralley panels available at the time so we made our own to accept the upgrade.
As seen next we cut off a section with the band saw on the cannibilized panel. The original panel has a straight line pattern made in to the plastic so this one will be exact.
As seen a knock off plate was cut out and ready just like the factory to install.
It fits exact and is ready to be fit it to the panel
Using the Fordham tool Eric refines the gauge panel to accept the ralley pack.
On the lens holder assembly we cleaned and polished it to a high level.
Installed it is looking good.
The center piece will be epoxied in place.
epoxy is in place.
We needed a dial from another Speedo so cannibalizing some more parts was needed.
We rebuild and turn the Odometers back to zero on all of our projects.
Assembled with newly painted pointer ready for install.
The electrical board behind the gauges worked fine so we cleaned it up and then reinstalled.
Close up shows tach, amp, temp, oil and clock all in one, talk about stuffing it.
Fuel gauge is next.
Clean and polish the lens to a high lustre!
Coming together and ready to test all the gauges.
The gauges get tested and operate correctly so we can now install.
Coming together!
