1965 Corvair - Paint & Polish
The parts are strategically placed in the spray booth to allow easy access in and around each panel.
Bob sprayed the "ultra violet blue" on the panels and it looks great. Notice the small table stand which allows us to spray the back and outside side at the same time.
As seen we had the smaller parts raised and taped to cups to aide us in spraying them effectively on the top and bottom side.
The door hinges were done while suspended with hooks. Gas cap lid too.
The main body was sprayed as a unit. As seen the masking paper is formed like a skirt to keep paint from entering in and under the body. In addition it keeps any dust particles from coming out on to the paint during the successive coats.
Pretty slick wet and shiny. "Ultra Violet Blue"
The rear tail light panel is mask off the next day then sprayed in silver which looks good against the blue as seen in the finished photos.
Large panels like the hood and trunk are next.
They look good and are ready to color sand then polish before attaching to the body.
Nat color sands using hard rubber blocks. He starts with 1000 grit then 1200, 1500, 2000 then polish.
Small angled finger blocks are used around corners and other tight areas.
Round blocks take care of the contours.
The small air buffer allows us to polish small areas.
Time to spray the interior, dash and door panels with the saddle shade to match the upholstery. We covered up the color sanded body to protect it from over spray. Its time to get after it.
Every square inch gets color sanded and polished.
The owner chose satin black in the front trunk area with black carpet.
Interior shade came out nice.
Steering column, ash tray and all others sprayed the interior color.
Odometer and gauge panel cover also done in saddle paint.
Satin clear was applied on all the interior parts.
