63 Galaxie - Misc Setup
We are installing a console shifter to work in conjunction with the automatic over-drive transmission and a mounting pan needs to be fabbed to hold it all in place.
We built a pan to hold it in place and fit the shifter low enough in the console to look natural.
The engine oil cooler will be mounted below the radiator behind the front bumper. Custom made brackets were fabricated to hold the cooler in the correct position.
This side angle shows the bracket in place as we get ready to mount the cooler.
To adjust the body in the front up and or down we simply use square tubing that slides inside of each other with a T-Handle to tighten.
T-Pee style brackets hold the rack in place when we remove it for fitting.
Same on the rear half of the car. Totally adjustable.
The motor is sitting in the best location possible given a front mounted rack and pinion system. As seen we tacked a piece of angle to hold the power plant in place perfectly level. We will now build the motor and trans mounts.
First things first we built a triangular mounting bracket to the engine.
Next the frame mount to accept urethane bushings was fabbed.
We installed the bushing and ran thick wall 1/2 inch square tubing from the triangle plate to the frame mount on a trapezoidal configuration.
Then we wrapped 16 gauge metal around it for looks and as seen a very stylish motor mount.
Time to try the fuel injection system to check for clearance to the drain cowl area. Looks good.
As seen we installed some 1/2 tubing under the step plate area and frame rail. This will raise the car up 1 inch. We will be installing this size tubing in several areas as it will be our main support system for our floor. The body mounts will actually be strips of 1/8th rubber sandwiched in between this tubing and the frame.
As seen we mounted the master cylinder side ways up under the dash behind the firewall to keep the engine bay clean.
The door hinges needed rebuilding and resurfacing to look better. As seen they are very scaling looking from the factory so Jack is running them over the belt sander to smooth them up.
After smoothing them off he rebuilt them with new pins and bronze bushings.
We fabbbed a bracket to attach the automatic door opener to. This solenoid will be remote operated.
