63 Galaxie - Dash
We start off by supporting the steering column and lower section of the dash with bracing. The steering column is a tilt unit and needs to be held in place firmly so we built a bracket along the base of the dash. As seen the collar wraps around the column on the upper half only to avoid being seen at the bottom.
Standing back you can see the tubing running from the passenger side over.
Lou built a bracket in matching 1 inch square tubing to finish off the driver side.
We decided to extend the dash, for a couple of reasons. 1. There was a lot of space the Ford designers left between it and the console which looked unsymmetrical. 2. It will hide the components under the dash, such as the A/C box, brake pedal mounts. etc
This side view shows the mock up straps used to extend the dash 2 inches. It looks good so we will fabricate the metal in 20 gauge steel.
The strips are tack welded in and ready for final fit before fully welding.
Installed she fits great.
The sides of the dash have a small curve so we contoured the metal to meet the extention.
On the glove box we added a section at the very bottom so we could retain the stock cover and hinge size.
Lou cut some tubing on an angle slice, to give the A/C louver holder/brackets a recessed look.
The oval louver bases are ready to install. Note the 1/8th diameter wire ring we welded around the perimeter to hold the A/C vents in place.
Defroster ducts were custom built to fit the tighter confines due to all the items fitted under the dash.
Now we can install the louvers inside the confines.
Custom mini ducts were also fabbed to come off the A/C louvers and immediately go side ways for clearance. The A/C vents fit tight and look right.
The back side shows the A/C ducts attached.
We go over to the dash and as seen we laid out the configuartion/spacing we want our control knobs to be.
Metal finished and ready for knobs.

Under the dash pad is the reservoir for the brake master cylinder that we placed under the dash pad to the left. You simply pop the original speaker cover in the center of the dash off and easy access.
