1928 International Truck - Wheel Spokes
Original wheel was in rough shape but intact. Top speed should be around 40 m.p.h. on this truck but these wheels would be unsafe at that speed so complete fabrication is in order.
First thing to do is restore the outer spoke rim so we know what size each spoke will need to be fitted to. Polished up and she is ready.
New spokes whittled from scratch we then hand sand each to fit exact.
All must fit together and tight but allow a slight gap at the painted surface to keep from pushing out the paint on the outer rim.
As seen a nice fit.
The very outer rim is next so we removed all the bent lips then straightened the rim where needed from 70 plus years of bumps and bruises. Remember now this Truck was ROUGH when we started not a cream puff but then all trucks were used back then and had to earn their keep.
We actually found a hard to find rim tool to install the split rim in to the new tire with tube.
She is installed, primed, sanded and ready to paint, but first we will install the center rim to be sure all is well.
After initial fit she came out even better then we thought.
Outer rim needs painted bare steel and she will be done.
Split rim looking good, a lot of work but well wheel-th it.
