1. On many of the projects we build there are no after market frames made for them and when a customer does not want to invest in us building one from scratch we have to alter the existing chassis. If the original chassis is in good condition we will then make changes to the original chassis to accept new suspension components including IFS units, rear ends etc. On this particular frame it was a one ton frame which was longer from the factory and it needed to fit a 1/2 ton shorter Bed. |
2. We will cut 11 inches out of the frame to shorten it at the bed area as from there forward the Cab, fenders and hood are all the same. As seen we have marked the frame, stabilized it in place to support the weight and are ready to cut. Doc is cutting the section out using a Sawzall. This tool zips easily though the old frame removing the unwanted section. |
3. He has moved the frame forward and as seen the 11 inch section is now removed. |
4. Using tram gauges to align correctly he measures to exact tolerance, clamps the halves in place, tack welds them, checks again then welds them up solid. The frame is now ready to sit down a new bed on to it that we purchased from Bruce Horkey and its life as a one ton long bed is over forever. Short beds are trick looking and the only way to go for looks. |
